Durham Cathedral Bus

The Cathedral Bus service links Durham train station and the coach park with the city centre, market place and Durham Cathedral and Castle. Some peak time journeys also travel to Durham University Science Park.

Fares

  • Tickets cost £1.00 (50p for children 13 years and under) and are valid all day.
  • Journeys to or from the university will cost £1.00 (£1.50 return).
  • Bus passes are valid for free travel after 9.30 am Monday to Friday and all-day Saturday.
  • Durham Park and Ride or Explorer North East ticket holders can travel for free.

Durham City Park and Ride

Durham City is served by three Park and Ride sites on the key routes into the city. These are situated at Belmont, Sniperley and Howlands. A direct bus service runs every 15 minutes to the city centre from each site.

Belmont Park and Ride (Opening Times and Bus frequencies)

Belmont Park and Ride site is located on the A690, approximately 300 metres east of Junction 62 of the A1.

Car parks are open from 7.00am to 7.00pm, Monday to Saturday.

Buses run every 15 minutes, Monday to Saturday.

  • The bus leaves Belmont Park and Ride at 00, 15, 30 and 45 minutes past the hour. The first bus is at 7.00am and the last bus is at 6.30pm.
  • The bus leaves Sniperley Park and Ride at 10, 25, 40 and 55 minutes past the hour. The first bus is at 7.10am and the last bus is at 6.35pm.

Sniperely Park and Ride (Opening Times and Bus frequencies)

Sniperley Park and Ride site is located approximately 400 metres north of the A167/A691 junction.

Car parks are open from 7.00am to 7.00pm, Monday to Saturday.

Buses run every 15 minutes, Monday to Saturday.

  • The bus leaves Sniperley Park and Ride at 10, 25, 40 and 55 minutes past the hour. The first bus is at 7.10am and the last bus is at 6.35pm.
  • The bus leaves Belmont Park and Ride at 00, 15, 30 and 45 minutes past the hour. The first bus is at 7.00am and the last bus is at 6.30pm

Holland Park and Ride (Opening Times and Bus frequencies)

Howlands Farm Park and Ride site is located less than one mile after joining A177 at the A167 / A177 roundabout.

Car parks are open from 7.00am to 7.00pm, Monday to Saturday.

Buses run every 15 minutes, Monday to Saturday.

  • The bus leaves the Park and Ride at 7, 22, 37 and 52 minutes past the hour. The first bus is at 7.07am and the last bus is at 6.37pm.
  • The bus leaves the magistrates court at 14, 29, 44 and 59 minutes past the hour. The first bus is at 7.14am and the last bus is at 6.44pm.

How much does it cost ?

For only £2 per person, you can park until 7.00pm, get unlimited travel on the park and ride buses for the day. You need to buy a ticket from the park and ride site. The ticket machine will take coins and cards (including contactless) but will not take notes.
